5 February 2013
Time. It's a really interesting concept once you give it some thought. While the second-hand ticks to a steady beat, it seems as though it speeds up and slows down depending on the day. However one thing is always constant...it's always slipping away. How we spend our time is up to us. While we all have those days where we sit around and do nothing, I most enjoy the days where I am running around doing multiple things that keep me busy. Living life on the edge is what I love to do. I like to live by the motto "Do something everyday that scares you." While it's not always achievable, I try to do something that pumps adrenaline once in a while. Live each moment to the fullest and live with no regrets. I've learned a few times too many that you should go after all opportunities offered up no matter how scary they seem. The memories will last forever - the fear however, will not.
I think the happiest days are the ones in which the little moments are appreciated. Moments as simple as spending time with those who mean the world to you or smiling to someone you don't know and telling them to "have a good day" - those are some of the things that make me happy from day to day in my life. Days where the sun is shining bright and the wind rushes around you brings me peace. Laughter from children at a local park brings happiness. There are so many things to be appreciated each day and I think most of the world misses out on these simple things. I find that most people are busy rushing to be places on time, hustling to get somewhere like work or the store...never stopping to "smell the roses," if you will. I think there should be an international "Smell The Roses" day, or even week, where everyone is freed from their everyday obligations to enjoy the miracles of life around them.
How many times have you seen the sun rise? How often do you watch the sun set? Have you ever star gazed late at night? I find myself taking all these simple moments for granted because they are presented to us everyday. I think they mirror the different types of people in this world. We are all essentially the same, yet we are all different and beautiful in our own ways. However cheesy that may sound, it's true when you come to think about it. No sunrise, sunset or starry night is ever the same...the earth is constantly moving, circumstances always changing. As is the same with time. Enjoy every tick of the second-hand because before you know it, it could speed up and slip away.
