30 December 2011
As the lights start to fade and the year comes to a close, we start to reflect on our experiences and choices in our lives from the past 365 days. Through the good times and the bad times, there's always something to look back to that will make you laugh and something that will make you cry, but they're all experiences that help to make you who you are today. What will you be doing as the clock strikes midnight tomorrow? Will you be spending it with family or with friends at a party? How do you want the year to remember you and how do you want the new year to start?
When people cry out "Happy New Year" what do you want to promise yourself for the coming year? Many people make promises that are with good intent, but are seldom kept. I think that if people really put some thought into their resolutions that people would be a lot happier knowing that they can change...doing something that they want for the better. It all depends on how you take the moment and how you decide to start the year off. Why not try starting it off with your best foot forward and hit the ground running.

29 December 2011
The perfect moment doesn't wait around forever, it's gone...seemingly in a blink. You never know when something amazing is going to happen, if you'll miss it or if you'll forget it after it happens. Nature is always changing right before your eyes. Whether you're watching the grass grow or the sun set and rise, nothing is ever the same way twice, even if it is essentially the same.
Bright colors, sweet smells, as well as the sounds make nature different everyday. No two flowers look alike, nor two grass blades that grow in the same direction. Snowflakes are never the same pattern and wind never blows by you in the same way that it has once before. The world changes with each of these little elements and also changes you as a person. It's up to you to be observant and understanding about it all and know how to just smile, breathe, and appreciate all that is given to you in a day. Because once these moments happen, they're gone forever.

28 December 2011
Beautiful weather is hard to come by. Days can be too windy, too cold, too hot, too dry, too humid, and so much more that makes them not just quite right. An afternoon with just the perfect temperature and the right amount of breeze to it is wonderful.
Days that have perfect weather, like today, tend to also be good luck days I think. When the weather is nice people seem to forget all of their worries and breathe a little easier...it's one less thing for them to worry about in life. With all the hustle and bustle going on in the world, it's easy to forget the little things that make us happy. Seeing a long lost friend and catching up with them is always nice. We get a chance to learn new things, share some smiles and memories, and just relax for a while.
When bad weather comes around, people tend to be in more of a bad mood and don't usually reach out to others. Gloomy days are seemingly sad and unlucky in most people's eyes. The tiniest ray of sunshine can do wonders for people's mindsets just as well as a smile and welcoming arms can spread happiness.
27 December 2011
Find me a movie theater that will supply a family of 5 with a few hours of fun for under $20...it's hard to come across anymore. Barely anything is guaranteed for a good time that is also easy on your wallet. Life doesn't have to be all complicated in order to just have a good time, you just have to know where to look in order to find quality fun.
The most entertaining things aren't always high tech or the latest cool trend around...it can be old fashioned, it's sometimes better that way. Today you'd expect things to be all electronic, fast, and seemingly more fast paced...almost hard to understand even; however, just taking a break from all of that can be good. Turning to something more simple and fun, like bowling, can be a true "relaxer" when it comes to wanting to have a bit of enjoyment. You don't have to worry about winning, beating the next level, competing against your friends and family members...it's not about any of that. It's about enjoying the time that you have with these people and making the most of it. You don't have to always keep score for a game, you can all laugh at each others' honest and simple mistakes.
Having fun with something simple in life is so much better than going out, spending a lot of money, taking a lot of time, being super competitive, and not truly having as much fun as you could be. With the simple things in life, you are able to not only feel confident that your time was spent well, but also that you can do something more fun more often because it's so thrifty...as it should be. Places that charge an arm and a leg aren't really worth your time, I think. Life's better spent doing things that are fun and more worthwhile than always trying to keep up with the world and experience the latest and greatest. Slow down and breathe for a while...it's worth the wait.

26 December 2011
Sometimes, it's good to seclude yourself from the world. We all have days where we just want to be left alone, to think about things and try to solve our problems. A quiet place is somewhere good to start, but it's keeping the helpful people out that is troublesome.
When I see someone who is sad, I immediately want  to go talk to the person and figure out what I can do to help them. I do have friends however, that wish to be left alone. I guess we all, at some point in our lives, want to be left alone to sit and ponder life...how it pulls our paths in different directions and about how it is able to change us everyday.
Driving to and from the city during the week for school gives me a lot of time to think. Time to think about life, choices I make, things that I need to get done, and the opportunities that I'm given everyday. Sometimes thinking about such things can be overwhelming and other times it can be eye opening...it's simply a matter of perspective.
Life is a great big roller coaster ride and there's no way to get off. You have to deal with the curves, the ups and downs, even the upside downs in order to come out in one piece. Yet no one is able to finish unscathed, you are bound for some jerks and abrupt stops that will leave an impact on your life.

25 December 2011
Nature is such a wonderful thing. The sounds, the smells, the bright colors are all so fun to experience. Most people take all of this for granted and sit inside looking through a window instead.
The only fun way to do anything in life is if you go out and do it for yourself. Sitting around waiting for something to happen is no good and will get you nowhere in life. You can't relay all of the things in the world to people...some experiences can't be shared, they just have to be felt on their own and remembered.
There's not much that you can do to explain everything in life. Some things are easy to take a picture of or even describe, but it's never just like it is when you're there. The lighting will be different, the colors...ill described; however, sometimes you are able to relay a memory accurately for another person. Every little detail counts, your senses take in all of them when you are out and about every single day. Remembering all of these things can be difficult and almost impossible.
Life is short, so make the most of it and remember all that you can, because you never know when your last day will be. Take every ray of sunshine, every blade of grass, and every sound, sight, and smell is unique and one of a kind so enjoy it for what it's worth.

24 December 2011

Santa Claus...one of the main icons of Christmas. Children look to him as a person of hope and love. The shining bells, red suit, magical sleigh, and many presents that he brings are so mystical to every child.
At Christmastime, the feeling of joy and happiness is abundant. Kids are running around with excitement about all the many gifts that they will receive and parents are stressing about gifts, planning dinner, and the in-laws coming over. Yet, with the music playing and the cookies being eaten, you have a warm and fuzzy feeling inside of you throughout the whole season. I think that that feeling is simply the happiness of giving. Knowing that you're making someone else happy with a gift, however small, means a world of difference to someone. Whether you have a useful trinket or just the spirit of happiness and hope to carry you through the holiday season, a time of giving and hope is sure to lift anyone's spirits.

23 December 2011
When you know that you've done something right, you feel as though you're glowing...radiating with happiness. Nothing else in the world matters to you at that moment; no one can tell you differently about what you think.
You have bright ideas...you just might not've discovered them yet. We all have days when we're shadowed by a little black rain cloud and other days where we sit close to the sun. More ideas are brighter than others, some so bright that other people can't always understand them. I like to keep my ideas to myself. The introvert in me tells me to keep things quiet until they're actually needed, so then it's always an element of surprise. Being quiet like that I think has some advantages. You're able to sit back and ponder all the situations that would go into making your thoughts and ideas real, to perfect them so that people are able to understand them. But I find that people who are quiet, want people to like what they have to say.
Some people in the world don't care for what you have to say, and I think that most all, people in the world want their ideas and thoughts to be recognized and seen as brilliant. We want to feel involved in something that's important to us. To have credit for something that is ours so that people can give us gratitude for what we've created. We all search for that for our entire lives but receive it only a handful of times. The world views you on how bright your words and ideas are and that's how you're accepted.
22 December 2011
Pretty please with a cherry on top? It's the good news in life that we are always looking forward to, but it's not always something that we get...so people will sugar coat it to sound like something better. Life is funny that way.
The good things in life are what we always want to be hearing, things that will lift us up and give us hope. Yet we listen to the news and the radio...hearing things that happen to other people. The car accidents, robberies, bad weather reports, stories about people who are sick or injured. Why? You would think that we wouldn't waste our time doing such things, yet we do.
I watch the news, but only for the weather or traffic reports in the morning; I listen to the radio, but only for the music. I would rather go through life listening to some good tunes, knowing a semi-correct weather forecast, and the best route to where I'm going rather than listening to the un-sugar coated facts of life and of the world. We all might be a lot happier if we pay less attention to the tragedies of the world and more towards the brighter side of life and learn how we can improve from the low points.

21 December 2011
Christmas lights are one of the many things that you can count on at Christmastime. Their glow radiates throughout the night filling the surrounding area with a crisp outline of nature, providing a minimal amount of light for you to find your way. Maybe we put up Christmas lights to resemble stars, like the one that was followed to reach baby Jesus on the night of his birth. Even though the lights are used to portray many different things, it's nice to think of them as little stars that are twinkling in the night.
My favorite types of lights to see are silver and blue ones. I don't particularly care for people who use every square inch of their lawn for a Christmas light, figurine, or sign...by then it seems too commercialized. I think that lining your house and putting lights on your tree is about enough to feel like you've contributed to the holiday cheer. Add in a little music and it's quite perfect...as the holiday season should be.

20 December 2011
When it comes down to it, how far are you willing to push yourself in order to cross that finish line?
My dad completed the Ironman a few years ago and I think that the race itself is a true test of how far you are willing to push yourself for something that you want. I don't know many people who are that dedicated to something...someone who is willing to go through mental contradictions and physical pain in order to complete something is beyond most people. Although most people have never done anything quite that extensive, we all have our own challenges everyday. When I run cross country, I am always thinking about finishing no matter how my legs feel, how hard it is to breathe, or what the weather is like...I just know that I need to finish and that I need to beat my time. Like with schoolwork, I need to get everything organized and done, correctly, on the date it's due in order to make the grade. Every test score I wish would be higher than the last...though most things are easier said than done.
Most people are trying to work hard in order to get the next big promotion, get the cover story on the next newspaper that goes out, or maybe it is a literal finish line in a race. Sometimes the goals could be a little smaller, but whatever the case, we all try really hard to reach them even when we tell others that it's just a small matter. The truth of it all is that it's not over until you decide that it is, because no one can really tell you when something's finished...they will never be able to see the ending product as you do.

19 December 2011
What most of us love the most about the holiday season, next to the music and giving of gifts of course, would have to be the food! Cookies, shrimp, wassail, what have you...they're all amazingly wonderful and bad for you, unfortunately. However, you live life once...so why does it matter if they're unhealthy or not?
The holiday season revolves mainly around the food and the sweets that are offered during this time of year. You have peppermint, chocolate, gingerbread, and much more. They're all so good that it's hard to choose just one thing to enjoy when it comes to Christmas day. Lots of cookies resemble shapes of significant figures of the holiday season...stars, stockings, snowflakes, ornaments, snowmen, you get the idea. Everything is so perfect and beautiful. I, however, love to make cookies, and then give them away to friends, teachers and family. Christmastime is all about giving after all, so why not share something sweet.

18 December 2011
A little smile will go a long way. After a long day, or maybe a long week, you're tired, grumpy, and not in the mood for much fun. It's always nice to have someone there to smile, because smiles seem to be contagious...and with them, come good moods.
We all love laughing, it's a given because when you laugh, it automatically makes you happy...you can't frown and laugh at the same time. Smiles are the same, a smile isn't a smile if it's a frown. There's this light that comes with them that just makes you feel good. You can hear someone smile in their voice over the phone, you can see it in their eyes, and you can notice when one is trying to be hidden.
Smiles are something that you can always count on not only to be white and bright, but also uplifting and contagious. I am one of those people who likes to smile often and make other people smile. See how far you can spread your smile...it will really end up brightening your life.

17 December 2011
The light at the end of the tunnel is always there to be seen, but it's like trying to catch the rainbow...we never can quite get there. As well as trying to reach perfection, often not achievable, but we can come pretty close.
You always hear the saying "Practice makes perfect," but does it really? It seems that we spend a lot of time doing things that we love, always trying to get better so that we may be "perfect" at something. People say "it has to be perfect," but we all know that nothing ever goes as planned. The truth is, we will never always be able to color inside the lines, never be able to always make every 3 pointer we shoot in basketball, or even get all A's in school. Where would we be in life without a little trial and error?
We strive to reach perfection in our lives and always seem to fall a little short. I think that we do, in fact, sometimes achieve perfection...but only for a moment. Life isn't perfect and it's not always fair, so you have to take what you can while you can and learn how to make something out of what you're given that's perfect in your eyes.

Go Rams! - per the request of someone special :)

16 December 2011
When you pour water into a cup of ice, you hear the crackling noises as the ice splits from the temperature change. The crunch of the sheets of ice under your feet as you walk out to your car - balancing, trying not to slip and fall. Things in life are always tricky, they turn out differently than you expect them to. Getting somewhere is half the fun...falling down is how we are all able to learn.
Frost is so beautiful, as are all the mistakes that we make in our lives. All of the different ways in our lives that we go...trying new things, falling down and picking ourselves back up again are such important and significant details of us all.
All the bad decisions and mistakes that we make in our lives sure fuel some great stories with lots of laughter. It's the times that we reminisce, when we freeze like the icicles on our gutters and are able to realize all that we've learned from the cracks in our lives and the many times that we've fallen down, but have picked ourselves up to keep going.

15 December 2011
Life is like a canvas, it's yours to paint and to make your own. The present is a gift, so take the most beautiful colors and make something worth looking at.
Splatter painting things seems to portray my life quite well. It's able to show the discontinued thoughts and processes that I have every day. The past is like a watercolor...blurred into beautiful shades of warm colors for the happy times and cool colors for the lower times. With each painting, you learn something new. You learn that you can't always keep your hands clean, that you can never color inside of the lines, and that it will never turn out perfectly but you just have to live with what it's made of.
Each wrong stroke may be covered up by another, but it is never fully erased. It's like the people in your lives that come and go. Not all will be stellar models for your personality. There will be people who will leave beautiful strokes of wonderful color on your photo and there will be people who come along and cast shadows and end up smearing all your beautiful work. Life's lesson isn't to just deal with these things...it's to learn to adapt, to paint over and around such things in order to make your painting into something better than it ever would've been before.

14 December 2011
Ever wish that time would slow down? Maybe stop, only for a moment so that you can accomplish everything on your to-do list, get all your homework done, and spend more time with the people that you love. Time seems to have varying speeds everyday, sometimes it's fast and other times it seems to drag on forever...but it's all the same, it's just different depending on how you spend it.
Today's youth in America tend to spend most of their time with electronics and with friends outside of doing schoolwork or their job. Days fly by like nothing and you wonder sometimes what you're doing with your life. I would rather know that I spent my life well doing something good for others and also myself, rather than having it wasted on doing things strictly for me and being unproductive with the gifts that I've been given in this lifetime.
Life is like a roll of toilet paper...it gets faster and faster until it reaches the end. Use each square with care and spend your life doing something that makes you happy with the people that you love. I'm positive that time will slow down for that.
13 December 2011
During this time of year, if you're anywhere where it's currently winter, all you want to do is curl up under a nice warm blanket next to the fire and drink some tea while watching your favorite movie or television show. Now you want to go do that...right?
Around this time of the year cookies, chocolates, hot cocoa, and much more seems to be calling our names. Most of us cave to it while others stay strong...determined not to gain the Christmas 500. I guess this is the test of how I will fare at college next year? Maybe there are better alternatives to things like that. Popcorn is a little better, or at least, I like to think that it is. Or just getting free smells from it all while I sit there with my stuffed animals under the warm blanket.
Christmas and the holidays give off such a warm and wonderful feeling. It's nice to know that the cookies are there to help me stay warm too.

12 December 2011
Laughter. The gift that keeps on giving. It's amazing to think that smiles can go miles. Both laughs and smiles are contagious it seems, and once we start...it's rather hard to stop.
You can close your eyes and think of something that has happened or that you've seen in your life, something that someone said and it will just bring a smile to your face. You can see it vividly and it takes you back to that moment in time only for a second. Then you burst out in laughter, and people give you weird looks like you're crazy and have lost your mind. Yet, you don't seem to care...because you know exactly why you're laughing and you feel bad that they can't laugh too. So what do you do?
You share the story with them. Then eventually, the smiles and laughter get shared as well. A bright, colorful array of bouncing voices and squinted eyes, tears streaming and sides hurting while you laugh until you can barely breathe anymore. It's times like this that you wish could last forever but that you can look back on and always laugh and smile just as much as you once did.

11 December 2011
The greatest ideas start from a tiny spark of imagination. That's how this whole photo-blog idea came about. It's cool to see how fast an idea can spread...it's like wildfire among people, just give it some time.
I sometimes find myself scraping at anything to get an idea. Sitting down here at my computer night after night having to come up with something new and interesting to write about isn't the easiest task in the world. I have to be more observant throughout the day and pick up on little things that spark my interest and get my imagination going. I feel like a dork writing ideas down and keeping them hidden to use on other days where I have a complete writer's block, but it works.
Many people in this world have splendid ideas, but not all of them are shared unfortunately. Some people's ideas are fizzled out by someone else's overbearing mindset and attitude toward getting things done. I however, think that all ideas are good ideas and that not one of them should go to waste. After all, you wouldn't have a fire to keep you warm in the winter without all the little sparks that go into making it.

10 December 2011
You do a lot of things in your life that aren't always what you want to be doing. People tell you to do things, you partake in volunteering or charity work, and spend your time doing things for others. Wouldn't it be nice to just sit, breathe, and do something for you once in a while? Something that you enjoy?
Why do we participate in things that we don't always love to be doing? Is it the nice person inside of us that wants to make everyone happy or is it just our mentality about life that drives us to do such things? I know that I'm probably too kind to people and I always end up in situations that involve helping someone else, but I enjoy those sorts of things.
I think that life isn't totally worthwhile unless you're spending it with other people and are working for something better. Without these things, I would feel empty. The happiness of others is something that always makes me smile, just knowing that I'm making a difference.

9 December 2011
Nothing ever quite compares to the first time that you see or do something. It's like first impressions, you need to make them count and be observant. What're you looking for when you first see, try, or do something for the first time?
When the setting sun strikes the snow covered branches of the trees and the sparkling blanket of snow, it's like something out of a movie or fairy-tale book. The colors multiply and become more than what they were to begin with. The shimmering flakes of snow are all so beautiful to look at, you don't want to stomp through the winter wonderland and mess up the perfect-ness of it all.
Sometimes when you see something for the first time, your breath is taken away. It's like surprises or even a box of chocolates...you never know what you're going to get, and that's the beauty of it all.

Thursday, December 8, 2011

8 December 2011
There's something so peaceful with something that so many people seem to despise. Granted the beauty of snow and winter is breathtaking... it's the slick conditions, the cold weather, and the lack of sun-shine that gets most people.
I love how the snow blankets the Earth and makes it so smooth. The tracks that get left by wandering animals and little birds are so much fun to look at, seeing which direction they go and how they weave across the land. You wonder where they go and hide during the day, out of sight from you. The crunching of all the flakes under your feet is a funny noise that brings a smile to your face.
There are so many things to love about every season and every time of the year, but most people, it seems, tend to always find something to complain about. I like to enjoy what is given to us everyday. After all, it is a gift...that's why it's called the present.

7 December 2011

Do you ever have those days when absolutely nothing goes right? You seem to forget anything and everything until you become this absent-minded void in the day that has no real purpose. Although, you somehow find a way to be productive despite your down-falls.
Today, for me, was one of those days. Everything I tried to do took forever or went awry. Somehow though, I was able to accomplish a few things. I guess that's what you do on the bad days...weed out the bad to find the good. No matter what happens, I believe that you can always take away something good from a situation. It might not be a specific memory that you will remember, but it will have been a lesson learned that will be able to help you later on in your life for the better.
Someone once told me that if you have a really good day, one of the main things that will stick out in your mind will be the one thing that went wrong; but if you have a bad day, the one thing that will stick out in your mind will be the good thing(s) that happened throughout the course of the day. I think that people tend to sometimes focus on the wrong things in order to make a judgement. If we take away something helpful and positive from everything, I believe that we will start to lead better lives. From this, I think that we'll be able to better understand what life has to offer and what a beautiful gift to us it really is.

6 December 2011
People are often too busy to stop and care about anything that's going on around them when they aren't required to do so. The season of giving is so much more than people tend think it is, and I think that it's worth stopping for a moment to honor.
We often get so caught up in our own lives that we don't pause to help someone else in need. There's excuse after excuse of why we can't do certain things, why we shouldn't do something, or why a certain task isn't right for us. Why not just deal with it and get it done? During this time of year, I think that it's when other people really need someone else to help out. But the big question is, who is going to be that person?
Maybe we should all re-read that story about the good samaritan, and practice to be like the samaritan...as we'd all like to have someone return the favor to us someday when we need it most.
5 December 2011
Decorations. Are they needed? Maybe they're just aesthetically pleasing to us for nice occasions. Most people probably think that it's a hassle though.
I think that decorations are beautiful. It's like snow on Christmas... something a little extra that adds an extra aspect to the moment or occasion that is seemingly like the last puzzle piece to fit in the big puzzle. Without decorations and extra "fluff" that gets thrown into parties and shindigs, I think that occasions lose a little bit of their "pop." I believe that it's important to have bright colors and something extra to help the distracted eye wander just a little bit less.
While people say that "it's what's on the inside that counts," I think that that's true, but when you go for a job interview, you dress up to look professional. Many people in the business world base their decisions on first impressions and the decorations that you bring along with yourself can help to make all of the difference.

4 December 2011
When the rain falls, you get the beautiful sounds of pitter-pattering on the roof and the puddles on the ground, the sound of the water running down the drain-pipes on the sides of the house. Then the temperature drops and there's snow...and it's silent.
It's strange to think that while rain and snow are essentially the same thing, one is silent while the other is loud. When a snow-storm hits, it's quiet. There's no lightning or thunder, no pitter-patter on the rooftop, nothing. Instead of sinking into the ground, it sits on top of it and accumulates. The snow becomes a blanket over the land that is pure and solid, untouched until you step through it.
After it's over, they're both silent, until you decide to walk through the snow. There's a crunching sound with every step instead of a sloshing one. It's interesting how two things that are so similar, can be so completely different.

3 December 2011
It's amazing how quickly things change in our lives. It's about as fast as the weather changes here...abruptly and unwarned.
Life is sometimes compared to a seasonal changing. In a way, I think that this is true. Things and people come and go, feelings change and last, and you grow as a person to be different everyday. I think that's the reason why people have reunions after so many years and want to hang out after so much time apart. We like to see how everyone's changed and see if things are still the same or different. Although we, as humans, don't usually like change, I know that there are some people that would like to see a difference in others.
Whether the weather is cold, or your changing personality is rapid like a wildfire, I think that change is good for us in our lifetimes. It helps us learn not only to let go of things that we no longer need, but it also helps us to realize that there are good things that can come out of changes that will benefit us everyday.

2 December 2011
Do you ever wonder what the number of the radio stations mean, ask why the sky is blue, or wonder why you have to do things in your life? I know that I do. It's the little things in life that don't make sense to us, but that we accept anyways. Why is it that we just accept these little facts? I think that it's because those aspects don't mean much to us or our lives...they don't make any difference to us.
Yes the sky is pretty when it's blue, but I think that it would serve the same purpose if it was green or yellow or even red. The radio station numbers...well I still don't know what those mean, the only difference is the different songs that you hear when you change the numbers. These little things are such a small parts of our lives that end up making no huge impact at all in the grand scheme of things.
If you were to know the answers to all of these questions, would it make a difference to you, would it give you a little peace of mind? It's funny to think of all of the things in our lives that are of such little importance to us and that we take for granted. We don't think twice about these things and we tend to just skim over them as if they don't matter. I think that maybe it's a good thing to question things such as this, and just for once have something that's irrelevant be part of your life.

The perfect shot. What we all aim for, but all too often miss. Keeping your "eye on the prize" is key to getting where you need to go.
There's a quote that I love that states, "Follow what you love, and it will take you where you need to go," and I believe that this phrase does have some truth to it. If you are dedicated enough to something in your life, odds are that you will do anything and everything in order to make sure that it will work out for you. Not having a plan of action for what you love is fine too...because if your'e dedicated enough to it, you'll just find something to do and be able to grow off of that. Which puts lots of truth to that quote.
In the long-run, it's nice to think that everything will work out just fine and will be perfect for everyone. Reality tends to step in and make sure that this doesn't happen. It's why we get rebounds in basketball, changes of majors in college, divorces, etc. because things don't always work out the way that you plan them to. If you want something badly enough, it will work out on its own and find a way to become perfect to you.
