Bendy Straws...how many different ways are there to open their wrappers? Have you ever crumpled the wrapper up, then dripped a drop of water on it to watch it unfold like a wriggling worm? I sure have, plus it's great entertainment for little kids at nice restaurants.
I think that the little things in life are very important. They help you see things that make you happy such as the way a leaf looks as the sun shines through it, the ants walking in their lines across the sidewalk, or the way a bendy straw leans as it sits in your sweet tea. I think that sometimes, it's the little details that people miss out on that causes mistakes. Some people end up taking others for granted because they skipped out on a detail or two.
Life is like a bunch of straws...each person ends up drawing a different color and each bends a different way. Whether it's a tiny coffee stirrer straw or a regular soda fountain one, it all depends on how you use it in order for it to be effective. We just have to figure out which way is the best. Sometimes the way we think isn't always the right way, but we keep trying and working at it in order to make it work.

Constellations are beautiful. The way the moon hangs in the sky as it reflects the sunlight in the evening is beautiful. Then the little twinkling of the stars is just perfect...surreal almost.
It's always nice when in your life you can see things fall into place. Today was one of those moments for me. I finally saw the stars align and I knew that there was something awesome waiting for me at the finish line. Today...I sent my first application to my dream school.
Like photographing in the dark, I know that the road for the rest of this year will be difficult and sometimes scary. But at least I know that there's a light at the end of the tunnel and that a better tomorrow will always await me.
When I look at the sky, I see limitless opportunities. The sky is the limit...right? At least, that's how I like to look at it. I believe that when the stars fall in line at the right moment in our lives, we're capable of anything, and that luck is on our sides.

Documentation is wonderful. Without it, we'd be forgetting a lot of things and important stuff. Sometimes the most important and special documentation we get is from the other people in our lives.
I think that we all record everything in our lives differently, whether it's a hand print on your heart or a typed up sheet of paper, we all find some way to remember the important milestones in our life. It's interesting to think about how people hundreds of years ago recorded history without photos, newspapers, and such. Granted they had artists who created paintings, but it's not the same as photography.
Maybe pencil and paper isn't always the best way to document everything. Our friends have their own way of leaving their own marks on our lives. It may not be in all of the birthday cards, group projects, or text messages...but it's the way that they shape us into better people. Leaving us with smiles on our faces and great memories that have taught us so many important things. To me, the best documentation is when someone leaves you changed, because it's something that everyone can see and it has helped you in a different way than it has with someone else.
Many people come and go in your life. You have scrapbooks, videos, and other memorabilia...but I think the best documentation of them being in your life is the memories they left with you, and the handprints on your heart that have changed you to the person that you are today.

Inspiration can come from many different things and can come at any moment. It's a curious thing actually. Sometimes it turns up in the most random places.
Whether your inspiration is a person, a memory, or anything else that is important to you, it's not always something easy to find. Every night when I sit down to write these posts I sit for a really long time and just try to come up with something to write about that will hopefully be interesting to everyone that reads it. I think that people are like this with ideas too. You think of something, then try to present your thoughts in a way that other people will like them and will be inspired by them.
Inspiration always comes to you at the right time it seems. It's one of those things that must just know us all way too well. At least, that's been my luck with it so far.
I like to listen to all different types of music and listen to the lyrics in each song. Even though 90% of the songs out there are about the same thing, they're all so varied. We can listen to 500 million different works and have a different thought and feeling after each of them. It's always nice to see how different people interpret things, because everyone thinks so uniquely.

Everything has a place and everything is in that place.
I think that we can all agree that we're functional in our own dysfunctional ways. I'm one of those people that likes most everything in an orderly place, whereas my sister...I think that the floor is an adequate place for most things. (sorry, but it's true, you know it)
When it comes to school, teachers want you to be organized and they don't want you to lose anything, yet how many of you have lost your bills that have come in the mail or an important invitation? Maybe they're lost with good intent...meant to be forgotten like the gifts you received at Christmas that you could really live without.
I always like finding things when I clean up places. One time, I found $40 in my shoe! Man, that was a great day. (Don't ask me why it was there...I have absolutely no idea). Sometimes, you're lucky and you find something useful, or something that you've been looking for for a long time. I always like finding little things that are useful, because when you find an old birthday card or a keychain...it's not as cool because you can't really use it.
Sometimes finding things isn't always physical...you can put little pieces of information and stuff you've "picked up" throughout the day and file them away in your mind to use later. Then, it's just a matter of remembering how to get to it and where you last left it in the mess of all of whatever your brain has in it, like the floor in your room.

25 September 2011

When I looked at the sky today, I thought about how much the clouds reminded me of the Disney movie "Toy Story." It's funny how sometimes the littlest things can remind you of the biggest memory.
Memories are a curious thing. They can be created and you can remember them for a lifetime...no one can ever take them away from you no matter what. I think that's what makes them so special to us.
When someone asks you what your favorite memory is, can you pick out just one? How long does it take before you come to your most treasured one, or does it come to you right away? I can never decide on a specific memory to call my favorite. Depending on what kind of day I'm having, it changes. I think people are like that with a lot of things...music, color, clothing. I wonder if something that sparks a memory is something that has to do with where you are or something that is said. I know sometimes someone will say a phrase that will remind me of a good memory with my friends, and I'll just burst out laughing. Wouldn't it be neat if we could relive those special moments in our lives?
If you had the chance to relive one of your favorite memories, or most special times of your life, what would it be and why? Would you do it, or would you have to think about it first? I think that every once in a while it would be nice to be able to relive a moment in your life where it was quieter...more simple. Vacations sometimes aren't enough for us, and daydreams aren't close enough to the real thing after all. Sometimes it's probably better to let what happens happen. Then you can look back and smile at all of the wonderful times you've lived through and hope that there will be many more to come.

24 September 2011
Lots of people tell me that I sound like my mom when I laugh. I think that some people have laughs that are crazy sounding and others, funnier than the joke they're laughing at. Sometimes, it's how we recognize other people from a distance.
You'd think that people would sound similar when they laugh, scream, or cry; yet, it's all different. I enjoy listening to all of the different laughs that everyone has. My little brother can do a pretty hysterical evil laugh, while my english teacher from last year can sound like she's gasping for air, but is oddly happy about it. I haven't figured out what I sound like...maybe ask my friends, they hear it enough on a daily basis.
I think that laughter brings us closer together. We can all share something that makes us happy in this world. I saw a sign once that said "a day without hearing a child laugh is a day wasted." Little kids I think have the best laughs ever. They get the little belly laugh that continues on for minutes when you pin them down and find their most ticklish spot. Laughing just puts you in a better mood, plus...it's good for your health too.

People do crazy things...that about sums it up I think.
You see at least one person a day do something very strange or out of the ordinary and probably wonder to yourself, "what are they thinking?!" Yeah, I think that quite often about a few people...you're not alone.
I think to myself, what makes people decide to do crazy things such as ride bulls at a rodeo, go sky diving, or test things like getting glass to have a crinkled look to it? Maybe it's the fact that they can have bragging rights to something, or that there's a reward? Although, I can't criticize too much...I jumped off a waterfall - for fun...maybe we're just all a little bit crazy. Either way, I think that stuff like that makes life more interesting. Without it, we'd probably lead pretty boring lives.

When you run cross country, you run for the popsicle, but it's getting to the popsicle that's most of the challenge. There's always a white line painted for you every single step of the way. Of course, this journey is much more difficult if it's missing in some places.
People tell you to always be a leader, and not a follower. Sometimes I don't want to be the first one to figure out that there's a hole in the ground or a cliff somewhere and fall. Although there are times where I'd gladly lead anyone and everyone through anything, I just like to have a small outline of where I should be going or what I should be doing. Maybe it's the perfectionist inside of me?
When it comes to running a cross country race, coach is always telling us to be in the very front of everyone. Well when there's not a line for the whole way, I don't want to be leading the whole group on an extra .5 mile expedition around the guys course when we don't have to be running it. It wouldn't really be beneficial to our times.
I'm one of those quiet people that likes to sit back and take in other people's ideas and mesh them with my own and see if together we can have an even greater idea. Although, I do think that sometimes it's kinda fun to forge your own path and take the "road less traveled by" as Robert Frost would say.

21 September 2011
Knowing the right things to say is always important. Sometimes silence is key. The quiet people always seem to have all of the answers and know everything that's going on, which I find curious.
I know lots of people who aren't afraid to speak their minds and always be loud about everything. Often though, I find that some people don't have filters on their minds. They just say whatever they feel that they need to. This can be beneficial and it can be disastrous. I think we've all had those moments when someone asks us if they look okay, and they clearly don't, but we say that they look fine anyways. Some people just say straight out the truth for everything. But I think that at other times, maybe it's good to just smile through something and let whatever happens happen.
I like to be observant of things and be silent. I think that this helps you because you can pick up on more things that are going on around you rather than if you're always speaking about what you think. You can have a collection of multiple opinions and different facts that you hear throughout the day. Lots of people say that you always have to look out for the quiet ones because they know everything. Maybe they don't know everything, but they will probably know more than those that are more out-spoken and you could possibly learn from them as well.

20 September 2011
As we travel down the lazy river of life...okay, maybe it's the rapids of life, we often wonder what's up next around the next bend or waterfall. But is the element of surprise always beneficial?
When I was little, everyone always wanted to know what you wanted to be when you grew up. As you get older, it's wanting to know which college you're going to get into, wondering where you're going to live, what job you'll have, and knowing if you'll be successful and lucky or not. Even though I find that sometimes I'm an impatient person, I think it's better to wait it out to see what life deals you rather than know how everything works out beforehand.
I know of people who go to palm readers and listen to the psychics tell them about their future. I think that stuff like that is so cool, but who says that it's all accurate? Even if it is, look at most of the younger generation today. Do you think that if you tell a teenager that they will be a millionaire when they grow up, that they will actually work for it, now knowing that that's what they'll be? I think that not knowing these things could be beneficial because then you will work harder for the things that you want in life and not be disappointed if someone told you you're going to live on the moon and you end up still here on Earth.
Maybe waiting for that awesome waterfall drop or the pretty scene around the next river bend will be worth waiting for, maybe others won't feel the same. Either way, reach for the moon, because even if you miss...you'll land among the stars.

19 September 2011
At the end of the day, is there something on your mind that you accomplished...or wished that you did? Everyone talks about setting goals and how to go about reaching them, but it all depends on the person for which type of goal you choose to go for.
There are many different types of goals I think. There are small ones that help you get through the day, and then big goals that take sometimes a whole lifetime to complete. Whether it's life changing or not, I think that goals are a good idea.
Everyday obstacles and challenges keep us from completing things on our list of things we have to get done. This happens to me every night as I start my homework. It's funny how you can find so many other things to do that will be more useful that doing homework when Beowulf's sitting on the desk in front of you. Every weekend my goal is always the same...clean my room, organize my desk, and do something productive! Yet, I always end up doing those things Sunday night. I should really just make a list of things I need to complete and prioritize them.
Although my goals right now may not be large scale, I have other big goals in the back of my mind that should probably start to take off when I begin applying to colleges and start studying what I want to pursue in life. I think it's cool to make goals for yourself and then be able to look back after you've accomplished something really cool and just have a good feeling about things. It's a great way to kick off a motivational mood to get more goals set and accomplished...not to mention have a more positive outlook on life now that you're more productive.

Something that I miss in modern day media, would be true talent. Granted there are those really good actors and actresses in all your favorite movies. Then you have the occasional singers. But it's when you go and pay good money to see a show that the talent usually lacks.
Most people today that wander around in the spotlight don't really have much talent beyond what auto-tune, some make-up artists, and a few colored lights can give them. Being able to listen to someone sing a good song without the help of a computer is true music to probably anyone's ears.
It's amazing how the music industry, or fame generally, has gone down in standards. All people are looking for now is someone to look to for fashion or the latest gossip. Don't you have your own lives to worry about instead of sitting watching the latest reality TV show?
People I think have their priorities mixed up with this issue. To me, fame is for people who have something special that no one else has. Today, people can be put in the spotlight just on the size of their wallet...which is sad, yet I'm told, and have unfortunately come to find out, that this is how the world operates. It's not about what you know anymore, it's who you know. If you think about it, it's true, yet it's only beneficial to those people in the world that actually do know something, otherwise you're down the drain for really great opportunities.
It bothers me how Hollywood pushes fame on the younger generations. Granted, the teenage dream is to live a life of fame, but I don't think that that career should be taking off when you're under the age of 15. A watched pot never boils, and if you want real talent, you have to wait to find it. In the meantime you might find a few diamonds in the rough along the way.

17 September 2011
If a picture's worth a thousand words, are reflections then worth double? Do you watch the water drops race down the windowpanes?
I think that it's days like these, that you want to stay inside with the heat on and a nice cup of tea or coffee, whichever suits you best. Curl up on the couch and read a good book with your favorite blanket, or watch the football games on TV.
I like being able to finally walk outside and not get attacked by grasshoppers and other annoying bugs. The air is so light and easy to breathe. Lately it's been perfect sweatshirt weather...just right to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful afternoon without being suffocated from the humidity and the hot sun.
Maybe it's the way that the water catches on a cob-web, or the way it magnifies all of the small, bright colors outside; but I really enjoy rainstorms. From the thundering beginnings, to the rainbow at the end, it's something to treasure. Each storm is so different from the next in so many ways. Each raindrop is a different size.
Sometimes, I like just walking around while it's pouring down rain. Even though you get all soaked, it's still so much fun. It's just water...you'll dry off, not many other people are out, so I don't think it matters what you look like either. I go for the sounds, smells, and sights.
And at the end, when it's all quiet and glistening, I like to look at my reflection in the puddles left on the ground and just smile.

16 September 2011
When I was little, I would always imagine that the middle line on the road was like a brick wall that you couldn't get close to because you'd hurt your car. Obviously that's not the case or we'd all have pretty banged up cars. We might also be broke from trying to fix the damages.
Now, this may sound bad, but I don't see a big deal with always staying inside of the lines. There are times when it's good to be on the other side. It's like coloring...pictures may look good when they're all nice and neat, but they really have some character to them when there are a few stay streaks of green from the grass streaking into the all too blue sky.
Sometimes the phrase "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" is true. Is it always better on the other side of the line though? You'll never know unless you try it. When I color in a coloring book, I sometimes use all different colors than what you would think something is normally colored. It makes the picture more interesting and it stands out more. I enjoy looking at art projects that are done by children. It's always refreshing to see how they construct things and draw the objects of the world. They all have a different take on how they think everything should look. Our perspectives all change when we see how the world really is. We start changing to think of things that will only be realistically possible. Then we start to color our lives inside of the lines that everyone else draws for us.
Maybe it's a little bit of rule breaking, but how is life fun if you're following suit with everyone else and not dipping your feet in the warmer water that is less crowded to get a taste of something different?

15 September 2011
While the cold air blows in, the changing leaves fall slowly to the ground. It's pretty sad when you have to sit in the car with the heat on instead of the AC.
I think that fall is so beautiful. The weather always cools down to the perfect temperature, the colors change, and it just smells nice outside. One of my favorite things would have to be raking the fallen leaves into a big pile so that I can run and jump into them. Granted it's a lot of work to do continuously, but I think that it's semi-worth it.
I've heard the line that if a leaf falls in front of you, someone's thinking of you. Maybe it's the optimist inside of me that always wishes that to be true, and maybe it really is true. I"m not sure how many other people believe such things, or if they just pass them off as non-sense. Sometimes the best way to get by the difficult things in life is to believe the little pieces of false-ness and make them true in some way.

14 September 2011
Have you ever looked at the different designs on tires? I kinda wish that they were like snowflakes...each car having a different pattern that would make it unique. After the mud dries on the paths, you can see everywhere someone has been and look at the zig-zagged marks left behind in the dirt. It's cool to think that we can virtually go anywhere we want, and not just on Earth.
One of my favorite places in the world is the beach. It's so beautiful. The waves crashing on the sandy shores and the sound of seagulls flying overhead is music to my ears. I walk along the water's edge and pick up seashells to collect. When I turn around to come back down the beach, I watch as my footprints get washed away by the ocean lapping up onto shore. The indentation will sometimes stay for a little while longer, but the initial footprint has disappeared, like I was never there. I wonder how many people walk along the edge of the water and watch as their footprints are washed away too.
Footprints on the moon are forever. There are no oceans, rain-storms, or gusts of wind to take them, or the tire-tracks away from the dust that covers the planet. It's like everything is preserved for someone else to look at and to learn from whenever the moon is visited next.
Maybe not all footprints are able to be seen with your eyes though. There are the footprints, hand prints, and tire-tracks that people leave on your life. There are those that help you to learn and to steer you down the right path; although, some people come into your life for you to help them. Maybe their tires need a new design and a new road to travel down or they're getting washed away by the waves of everyday life.

13 September 2011
Sunsets are always beautiful, but it's the 1 billion different sunrises everyday that are just as amazing, that most of the world probably never gets to see, or never pays attention enough to notice. A sunrise, to me, means not only a new day, but new opportunities.
I don't think that a lot of people stop to watch a sunrise. They're far too busy blocking it with a sun-shade, their sunglasses, and busily driving to work. I enjoy watching them and looking at all of the cool things that they offer our eyes and minds to take in. I like the way that the contrails glow with the pink and orange colors. I always wonder where those planes are going, they're so high up and are traveling so fast. The way that the light streams through the leaves and branches of the trees and is sectioned into rays by the early morning fog is so cool. It's like something out of a painting that shouldn't be real...like a dream. The fog dancing on top of the water on the lakes nearby and the river is fun to look at and drive by on the way to school. None of this lasts for very long though, soon the sun is up high in the sky and it starts to get warmer outside. The fog lifts and the bouncing colors are gone, just streams of light that blend together to the average color tone of daylight.
Sunsets would have to be my favorite to watch. They're almost like sunrises, but yet are different in so many ways. The colors are deeper...richer, and you can watch as the sun disappears over the horizon line, fading away. You can feel the warmth fade away too, as the light does, over the horizon.
I wonder what's it's like to watch a sunset or sunrise from a hot air balloon? Perspective is everything, not only mentally, but physically too. I wonder if being higher up in the air would make a sunset or sunrise look different, or prettier than it already does?

The cracks of life are there for a reason,
Friends come and go, they change throughout the seasons,
The weathering comes and the true tend to stay,
Catch a falling star to save for a rainy day.

If you could fill a crevice, with a memory or laugh,
Which second would you choose, which would you want to last?
As you walk alone on a trail at dusk and look up at the sky,
Have you ever seen a shooting star, or choose to look at the lines in the pavement and sigh?

As fall approaches and the leaves are turning,
The campfire smolders and the sparks start spewing.
You feel the wind blow through your hair, it whistles to only you and you have not a care.

Colors are rich and the shadows are long,
Storm clouds roll in and sunlight is wrong.

The promise of a better day and all the good things that have come to stay,
A rainbow can renew lost hope,
Yet it doesn't include the color...heliotrope.

Catch a falling star to save for a rainy day,
Keep your friends close, don't let the cracks run away.
When the rain starts to fall, please give it your all,
You never know who is waiting and not wanting you to fall.

11 September 2011
Where were you when America froze? Did you have a loved one that fought or was part of the great disaster that occurred just a decade ago? What were your thoughts as you watched the towers crumble down on every news station that morning?
10 years have passed since the September 11th attacks and the memory sticks with us all here in America like a thorn in our sides. Ever since that day, life hasn't been the same for anyone. For a while after the attacks, we walked around hoping that no one else was coming to hurt our beloved country, and wishing that it had never happened. When air travel took off again, the security sky-rocketed and traveling became even more of a pain. The magnitude and seriousness of this event never really sunk in with me because it happened when I was young; although, I did realize that something terrible had happened to the United States and that the people of our country felt hopeless. This was a time when I believe the people of America had to pull together and help others. We had to lean on our neighbors and strangers for support.
Every year on this anniversary, I look at photos from the event and get goosebumps. You see children covered in ash, people running for their lives from a massive cloud of dust thundering down the street after them, and the ever so shocking photo of the planes, colliding with the Twin Towers.
The stories of these people must be more than amazing. They are the buds of hope that walk about our country today. I also see pictures of people falling out of windows from the smoking buildings, hanging outside the windows, hoping that they will be rescued, and of rescue team and firefighters helping people on ground zero.
I am thankful for every person that was a part of helping someone else that was involved that day 10 years ago. Looking at photos of firemen wheeling someone away from the scene, police officers keeping people away from harm, and monuments that people created from the rubble are truly moving and remind me that people are really good at heart when it comes down to it. The people involved in that day had to rely on complete strangers, and I'm sure some had to trust others with their lives. Every survivor is a miracle, and every photo is a reminder that we can pull through if we stick together.
Looking back at this day, a decade ago, it's truly amazing to see how far we have come as a country. From all of the tragedy, heartbreak, and loss...we can rebuild. People have kept moving forward and have found ways to commemorate those lost and those who fought on the 11th. We have become stronger as a country and I believe that from the rubble, we can stand tall and walk away with a strong sense of pride.

Please feel free to leave a memory or anything else that comes to mind. God bless.

10 September 2011

American football is the main sport during fall pretty much anywhere in the United States. I always remember watching the games on TV or going to the games with my grandparents and parents.
What are the best moments of Nebraska football? I think that they would have to be: 1) The fly-over after the playing/singing of the National Anthem. 2) The tunnel walk, and 3) The first touch-down of the game...when the crowd erupts with applause and cheering while about 1 million red and black balloons are released into the sky. I tell you, there's nothing like it.
As we approach the 11th of September, a monumental day in America's history, it's nice to know that those who fought and lost loved ones are not forgotten. Moments of silence and a simple wave of the American flag are such great ways to honor those who serve our country and remember those lost. Be sure to take a moment tomorrow or maybe even in the last few minutes of today to stop and think about who you're thankful for that's helping to serve our country and to fight for your freedom.

9 September 2011
Everyday people tell you to be different than everyone else and to make yourself memorable. Maybe it's just a high school thing in order to get into college and stand out, or maybe it's this way out in the real world too. Either way, I think that being different is good.
Those days that you want to be mismatched...go right ahead. I like trying to find things that are on the edge of actually coordinating sometimes. It's more fun that way. You get people to ask what the occasion is and you can say "just because I felt like being a little crazy today." Something else fun to do is to just pour everything into something and go all out. Sporting events and parties are more fun if you come ready for the occasion and ready to make some noise, and be outgoing. Where is the fun in not screaming your heart out for your favorite player on the team, or dancing and singing along to your favorite song?
Even though not everyone may have the confidence to be crazy everyday, I think it's the few people that are willing to always try new things that end up inspiring others to do so too.
"You may laugh because I'm different, but I laugh because you're all the same."

8 September 2011
"Run for the popsicle!!!" That's mainly what you run for in the hot weather on the day of a cross country meet. The goals we set for this sport are crazy sometimes. Everyone that I run with is mainly focused on finishing in order to get the water and popsicles.
Success is sweet and colorful...or at least it is in terms of something cold and sugary. During a cross country race, I like to think of the little things that I get to enjoy when I finish. I like how most everyone at these meets is there to cheer everyone on and give them something to look forward to. Someone on the side is yelling to go catch the next person, that you can do it, and that just around the corner there's water. It's sometimes comforting when you're feeling slow.
I think that this is probably the same for any sport. Granted, some sports the coaches take a lot more seriously and are always yelling, but I think that it's the idea of "when I get to the sideline I can have water" or "when I sit back on the bench, I can rest" that sometimes is the main thing keeping you going.
No matter what sport you do, or what motivates you to finish out strong, the determination is definitely always going to be there. The support of friends and family is always nice, but maybe our will to finish is just coming from the popsicles that silently cheer us on from inside the cooler at the finish line.

If you have ever seen the Disney Pixar movie "Cars" then you know exactly what I mean when I say that I love the look of neon signs reflecting on an asphalt road. Granted, it doesn't quite look as awesome in real life as it does in animated films, but you can get a similar effect.
Driving at night is almost always fun. There's no traffic and you seem to make every light. I enjoy sitting at intersections watching the lights change and seeing the different colors reflect on the asphalt. My favorite is when it's rained or is raining, and you're sitting at a stoplight. The car in front of you sits over a puddle of water and you can see the whole under-side of the car. I've never actually seen underneath a car until I saw that reflection.
The only bothersome thing about lights in the dark would have to be the bugs. Although, the sound of the bug zapper when it electrocutes a bug might bring some people a tinge of happiness. I always get into my car the next morning and look at my windshield in utter shock as I discover all the thousands of bug guts splattered about my once clean window.
One of the night bugs that hasn't ever bothered me would have to be lightening bugs. When I was little, I would go outside and catch them in my bug house and just watch them glow. I thought that that was the coolest thing, a living thing could create light. They're the little stars that keep rearranging themselves in my front yard night after night.

Have you ever sat out at a picnic and been attacked by bugs? It happens every time for me. Every bug seems to like me, especially mosquitoes. I love being outside, and although I sometimes look like I have chicken pox, I think it's sometimes worth it.
Other times it seems like dealing with insects isn't worth the energy. This past summer I had a picnic in Fiji with some of my really good friends. We all sat down to eat, and were instantly attacked by ants! We all opted for standing and eating our sandwiches. My big question is, if bugs are 100 times more afraid of us than we are of them, then why are they attacking us?! I really want to know that. Is their desire for food THAT strong that they have to invade the picnic blankets to pick up crumbs? They could just wait until we're done.
Aside from the invasions and the kamikaze flights into our faces as we try to walk a beautiful nature trail, bugs can be funny and curious.
Tonight while doing math homework, I had a little green bug, no bigger than the size of the head of a pin, land on the edge of my notebook. It was so cute. He sat there for about 5 minutes watching me work problem after problem before flying away. Maybe not all bugs are bad, but I think that you shouldn't squish everyone you see just because they're invading your personal bubble. Maybe let them rest and watch them for a second or two, not every insect bites.
