31 May 2012
We all make mistakes. But it's okay Grandma...they can be delicious mistakes. Aside from frosting in strange colors, there are many other ways that we can screw things up! It's just life's little way of saying that it's in charge and we can't do anything about it. It is what it is and that's that. I try so hard to prevent my stupidity from taking over, but it just happens sometimes. I guess it's a more "hands-on" way of learning? Creative and clueless...what a great combination. We all suffer from it, so don't blame your neighbors. We must instead embrace this trait with confidence and be able to laugh at ourselves and others when the moment comes around...or passes.
There are many people in this world that run around trying to control everyone and everything - trying to make everything perfect. Perfection is never achieved though...it can only be accomplished to a certain point and then it begins to continually remain out of reach at the end of your fingertips. We try to become cleanlier, more organized, and even more prompt, but yet we're late, we mess up and we lose things. It's inevitable. It's life. Embrace it, laugh, and move on to the next great thing that's headed your way.

30 May 2012
What does it take in this world to stand out? There are so many ways to go about it - not all recommended however. Many of us don't always think about consequences in life. One idea may seem great one second, but the explosion 5 seconds later can be disastrous. A problem of today's generation that I'm finding more and more is that there's not compassion towards others. We're slowly drifting from those closest to us and reaching inside of ourselves to do what's best for us and what we want most.
Being able to get somewhere in life isn't always based on how smart you are. The phrase "it's not what you know, it's who you know" has so much truth to it that it's often scary. So how is anyone supposed to get ahead when the odds aren't always in your favor? As much as I dislike socializing, due to my introverted-ness, I find that the more people you meet and connections that you make the better chances you have in the real world. It just comes down to how badly you want to be noticed and how much you want to stand out against everyone else in the world.

29 May 2012
Much of this world is too scared to leave the normalcy of their lives and branch out to something new. We never really know anything different or better until we get out and try it. Life is so easy when you don't know how much better things can be, yet it's amazing how life changing it can be when we open ourselves to something new. It can get infinitely better. We shouldn't be afraid of change...it's often for the better. Change can come about in so many ways though - over-night or over a life time. Reacting to this is up to us but can change the outcomes, especially if we're not careful and respectful to both time and fate. Playing by the rules makes things safe, but allows for too many things to go unnoticed and without trial. Being able to put yourself out there and stand out is something that not everyone is able to do. Maybe we're not meant to achieve everything in this world, but it's sure a good challenge to try and see how things work out.
As children, I'm sure we all played the game that involved avoiding all the cracks in the sidewalk so that we wouldn't "break our mothers' backs." Shouldn't we be wanting to take the risk and see the consequences? It's how we learn and move forward in life...falling down and being able to pick ourselves back up again. No one is able to get through life unscathed or without harming someone else. It's all part of the journey whether we like it or not. The only way that we're able to overcome it is if we're able to stand out, lose all sense of self-awareness, and realize that life's too short to care about what people think, what an outcome will be, or what the plan for the rest of the week is. Worry about now and everything will fall into place as it should.
27 and 28 May 2012
The funny thing about time is that it's always passing, always moving forward to the next second, never going back. In life, we tend to get so caught up in our own lives that time becomes a background thought - it even seems to speed up, like it's working against us. It's really all about perspective, I think. When you're really enjoying something it can go by so fast; however, when situations become awkward and dull, time cannot crawl by fast enough. Yet time is always the same. Repeating the same times each day, always the same speed, never changing. It seems kind of ironic when the whole world is constantly changing at different times and speeds everyday.
One of the reasons that I love to always have my camera on me is because nothing will ever look the same way twice. I don't think that every person in the world realizes that. They see every sunrise as average, every gust of wind another burst of air that blows their hair in their face, and all the waves in the ocean as wrinkles in the large pool of the world. Just like people, each item in this world is vastly unique. We're always adapting to the world around us - trying to learn and grow into something better than what we are today. There are only so many seconds to spend in our life. A week might seem to take forever but a second is gone in a blink.
When you really think about it, life is short. I often find that it's easier to just go with that flow of life and let things happen the way that they do instead of trying to always control it. If things are contained, they tend to spiral out of control and become unmanageable. The world could be so much more relaxed. By letting things go the way that the wind blows often tends to provide for a great time. Life is one heck of a ride, hold on tight and have fun and things will all fall into place.

26 May 2012
If you close your eyes and try to remember a time,
Someone special, a moment that words cannot rhyme.
The past is the past, is it worth letting go?
Maybe we hold fast to these things so that we'll never know,
If we forget the memories, the good times, the sorrow,
The support of friends, pictures, and a few words to borrow.
The past is the past, it will never come back,
Look ahead, keep moving forward, or else wisdom you'll lack.
Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all,
Run fast to the finish line, pick up our feet and try not to fall.

When the clock chimes 12 and time's run out,
It's in that moment that our heads are filled with doubt.
Never fear, keep on smiling, there's a better tomorrow,
Happiness is a thought that is easily borrowed.
As you move on in life the past is of no concern,
The books and the bridges are easy to burn.
But in years from now when we look back and smile,
We all wish we could have one more moment to walk down the aisle.
In the words of Dr. Seuss - in a mood far from saddened,
"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

Some things in life are worth waiting for. While we spend most of our time preparing for some big event, trying to figure out a surprise, or even get to the next step in our lives...is it really worth it all? To have the more important moments that seemingly mean nothing just fly by without a care or a second thought? I know that I would love to be able to take in every single second like it's my last - you only get so much time on this earth. Lets try not to spend it hiding out away from danger, caving into fear, or even running through the short-cuts because the scenic way seems too costly.

24 May 2012
In the grand scheme of things, we're all so small, making a little bit of difference in a very big world. It's hard to believe that we share this space with so many other people. It proves the point - "the little things in life do matter." If they didn't there wouldn't ever be any change in the world. Focusing on the bigger picture never gives credit to the smaller things that go into making the bigger item what it is. Nothing is possible without the help of a few or many. Appreciation is key. However...people don't want to be part of something unless they will be thanked and recognized. It's so easy how people forget these things. In the end, it's the little things that may matter, but the bigger picture that we see.
23 May 2012
The road to a better place is never one with a red carpet. Those are the ones that you have to look out for. People are always looking for an easier way out, something that requires less time and effort. I've learned that nothing ever comes easy if it's truly meant to be - that way when something is earned, it will mean that much more to you. Plus, if you get everything by the snap of someone's fingers, you'll never be able to experience the necessary moments and paths that will take you where you need to go.
As life goes by, things are earned and lost. Those that have never lost I think have a more difficult time letting go...they don't know how. Something that will never change is the wisdom that you gain from all of these things. It not only can change you as a person and leave a lasting impact, but it could possibly help you in the future for other things that are important to you. The key to success is in the perfect fit...you have to test out all the roads before you can come to the right door that's just waiting to be opened.

Unlikely things happen at the most unlikely times in our lives. Mostly, they end up turning out for the better. I notice, more often than not, that people are friends with other people that seem totally opposite of themselves for one reason or another. It puts truth to the phrase "opposites attract" and does a good job in making heads turn. It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round. Without a variety, we would all get so bored of everything! Variety is the said spice of life, so why not appreciate it and enjoy it.

21 May 2012
We are always thinking about getting to the next point in our lives, the next best thing. More often than not, we don't stop to smell the roses, if you will. I don't think that life should always be about the destinations, rather the journey to get to these different places and how they are able to shape us into something different than we are today. Many people will judge the actions and covering of our transportation...our way of getting to where we need to be. Odds are that people are envious. It may seem as though the nicer rides are the way to go, but really it's just a matter of what can get you from one point to another in a way that you see fit. Everyone is different, but it all works out no matter what. I like to remember that "life's a climb, but the view's great."

20 May 2012
Things can change so quickly in life that it's important to remember to keep your eyes open long enough so to not miss anything. Nothing ever happens in the same way twice, so be sure that every time is noted and experienced...every time is the first time. The future always seems so far away, yet it's always at our fingertips. We spend so much of our lives counting down the seconds to when something will arrive when we don't even care about what we have in the moment. Then it's gone and we're devastated...it's because of that that we must learn to appreciate things as they come and as they go. That way, nothing is ever forgotten or unnoticed.
We often don't notice that things are becoming more and more different. We wake up one day and everything is changed. The small amounts over time that have evolved never seem to alert us. Therefore we don't always notice until it's over or gone. While it'd be nice to say that "looking harder" would fix this problem, it's not the answer. I don't think that there is an answer other than to live today like it's your last and to not take anything for granted...you'll never know if tomorrow everything will be gone.

19 May 2012
The people in our life that mean the most are then ones that stick around through everything and will love you no matter what. These people are the ones who you can come to with anything, talk about all your problems with them, and even just sit quietly and enjoy each other's company. I can't put into words how important those people are to me. In such a big world, it's always comforting to know that there will always be someone who cares about you and will go through anything for you. The test of time is one that never fails or lies. It's nice to realize these things on a day when you're not expecting it. Surprises can be nice sometimes. The way that you react can mean the world to the other person, you never know.
I appreciate all of my friends in my life at this moment, but I know that not all of them will be by my side forever. I'm glad to know that I have a few that love me for who I am after all these years. "Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born." - Anais Nin.

There are many different titles for those that we classify as a friend. Names such as "mate", "buddies", "girlfriends", "guy friends", or even "siblings" for our closer friends are all good titles. I think the best names are those that are nick-names. One of my favorites being Lemony. I find that friends with awesome nick-names such as that are usually the best kind to keep around. Life isn't exciting unless you keep it full of kind, helpful, and wonderful people. It's really better that way.
Someone with the name of Lemony must be super nice...always smiling and kind. Open to new ideas and understanding of others. Selfless enough to see happiness in others instead of keeping it for themselves. We need more people in the world like this. Yet, they are a rarity, for I only know of one Lemony. Without her, my half-birthday celebration today wouldn't be complete and this blog post would be written about something entirely different...I might even have had entirely different plans today. So thank you to Lemony for all that you've done! My life wouldn't be the same if you weren't part of it and neither would my mantle.

17 May 2012
There's a time and a place for everything. Most of the world works in a way where we learn to not care about the outsiders. We're trained to act in a way that is unique to our feelings and emotions. Reality allows little room for people to change course immediately or stop altogether. The problem with that is that we're always changing, constantly finding out what we are and aren't good at, learning the things that we love and that we hate. We can't stay stuck to the same things our whole life, change is good, and strategy is key.

16 May 2012
Though these are hardly anything I would've taken today,
It's funny to know that we're never here to stay.
We are forced to let go after so much time,
The school bells ringing have become a dimmed chime.
It's hard to forget these precious days,
Learning right and wrong, weaving through the constant maze.
Forced to forget the times of grief,
The years fly by so fast, it's truly beyond belief.
When the time has come to finally say goodbye,
It becomes harder for some to spread their wings and fly.
For those of us who can't wait to get out,
There are many people who's heads are only filled with doubt.
Oh wait, please watch while I prove you wrong,
My life played out, like the lyrics in a song.
We know what we're here for, what we're meant to do,
I'm not giving up, I'm sticking like glue.
You can look at me and stare, say whatever you wish,
But my dreams and my confidence you will never squish.
Then I hope that one day we can look back and think,
How all the cute moments were gone in a blink.
Even though they were fast, they helped us grow and realize,
Where we are headed reaches farther than the skies.

15 May 2012
When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. There is no time to back down and surrender. Life is moving too fast for those sorts of things. When things become more difficult, it's really just life's way of giving a test...seeing how you stand up to challenges and how truly strong you are, how determined you can be. If something isn't meant to be, I think that you'll be let down in a way that shows that it's truly not meant for you. Anything with a sliver of chance is always worth fighting for. Unless there's is seriously no hope, you should never give up. It's better to have tried your hardest and not worry about the "what if?" factor rather than let things slip by unnoticed.

14 May 2012
Take a careful look at things in life...they are never as they seem. Constantly changing and morphing into things that you'd never expect. It's funny how life works in ways that you'd never think possible. The little miracles that happen everyday, the small moments that are bittersweet can so easily break a heart. Things that don't always matter can make the biggest differences. It's in the final moments that we realize just how important they've become. In a moment, everything can change. The weather, feelings, and everything else is subject to change at any moment in time...we just have trouble preparing for it because we like to think that things will stay the way that we like for eternity. But alas, nothing is permanent and nothing lasts forever. Tomorrow brings a new day for something different and something new.

13 May 2012
You never lose hope, you're a true inspiration,
The way that you smile and laugh...our secret communication.
Never leaving my side, even when I'm angry,
You just shake your head and look at my blankly.
The way that you cook and give me clean clothes,
My love for you, well...nobody knows.
You're something truly special, a very rare gem,
Even if I yell at you now and again,
I love you a lot and you're special to me.
The reasons why count more than all the branches on a tree.
Happy Mother's Day to you, with lots and lots of love,
I promise you didn't see that love for my sister, I gave her a shove.
All that you do, I could never measure up,
Just the way that you sing "Red Solo Cup."
You're really super awesome and I'd be lost without you,
Sorry raising me has made your life such a zoo!
Just never forget how important you are,
And all those times that I'VE cleaned out your car.
Happy Mother's Day to you - the greatest of great,
When I'm driving with you, I know I'll never be late!

11 and 12 May 2012
When it gets to a point in life where it may seem like there's not a reason to go on, it's in that moment that you need to look around and think again. There may always be a thousand people telling you to stop, a million reasons why you can't or shouldn't be doing something, and all the reasons why you should stop; but it's the one reason that should drive you to the light at the end of the tunnel that makes it all worth while. It shows who truly needs to be on the other side of the fence...where the grass really is greener.

10 May 2012
There are many things in life that are said,
Without a care in the world, the breeze flows right through your head.
Those that don't really care and never seem to mind,
Keep a watchful eye...people approach from behind.
They do not mean harm, only to intimidate you,
We must be the better person and just bid those thoughts adieu.
When the world closes in and you don't know where to turn,
Please come straight to me...don't let yourself fall, crash and burn.
Never ever forget how truly wonderful you are,
Your smile and personality shine brighter than the biggest star.
It might not be today or even tomorrow,
But I promise one day soon, gone will be all the sorrow.
These people in the world don't know what it's like,
They've never been caught with love and a spike.
To never really know or never understand,
They've always had someone holding their hand.
But someday we will be the better people,
Sewing together our lives with a very sharp needle.

9 May 2012
When we're younger, we think that because we're "in" on all of the new things that we know everything. The truth is though, that we don't know everything. Wisdom comes with age and you can't really understand anything until you've experienced it firsthand. There are many thoughts about how that is crazy-talk and that you can just read something in a book and it's the same. False. That couldn't be more true. How can you accurately describe the happiness that you feel when you ace the test that you studied all night for, the joy of getting just what you wanted on Christmas, or even the blessed feeling of bringing a child into the world? No one can empathize with you unless they've been there.
8 May 2012
Secrets are things that are better left unsaid. The compliments that aren't so nice compliments to those that ask how they look when trying on a new outfit. The quiet sounds of the world whispering are those that we must listen to, for those are the words of wisdom. It's why no one is wise...we never stop long enough to listen to everything around us. None of us ever truly learning what is good, true, and beautiful in this world. The secrets of life aren't found in the light, or under rocks or in the cracks of a mountain. They're found within each person of the world. It's like a giant puzzle that we must piece together...yet we're never able to retrieve all of the pieces before time runs out. Most of the people in the world start to get lazy when things don't work out...they don't understand why things won't go their way and that's just it: they fit things loosely together. Nothing is ever definite. When we're always striving for perfection, it's funny that the little secrets of it are slipping through the cracks that are right in front of our eyes.

7 May 2012
There are plenty of people in the world that spend a lot of time hiding behind something to keep safe from the world. Reality can be harsh and no one tells you that or how to deal with it. If we don't stand up for ourselves and show the world what we have to offer, it makes it so much easier for the rest of the world to break us down. Better to learn and grow than become weak and break under something small. No matter where you go in life, there will always be a wall that will try and stop you. The fun of it all will be trying to find a way past it...whether you go through, over, under, or around it is up to you. It becomes a way to weed out the weak and build up the strong. In a perfect world, there are no weak, only the strong that help each other to be the best that they can be. But then again, reality never plays nice. Finding loopholes becomes the new, fun sport.

6 May 2012
The best time of your life isn't always what you expect it to be. It's hard to know what the top looks like when you've never seen it before, things will continually change and before you know it, it will all be over. It becomes beneficial to take every moment as it comes and make sure that you remember each one in some way so that when you get to the other side of the mountain you'll know when you crossed over the top and you were actually able to see the view. Many of us are always planning ahead, working for something better, or doing things that only make us remember small moments in life. I wish to start remembering each moment for what it is and taking in everything as it comes. You never know which moment will be your last or if the end of something good is near. It's better to enjoy what you have and never look back or forward. Enjoy the now and things will be alright. If it's not alright, it's not the end.

Saturday, May 5, 2012

4 and 5 May 2012
In life, it's often the little things that make us happy. There are so many people in our lives that help us, support us, and take time to be with us. How often do we get the chance to thank them, tell them how much we truly appreciate what they do? It wouldn't hurt to turn to someone and thank them or tell them that you love them every once in a while...we all need a little "pick-me-up" now and then. There will be people in life that stick out more to you than others do. Maybe it will be because they were a part of something big in your life or helped you through a tough time. Either way, they have surpassed the others and have formed a bond that can never be broken.
I always like to take the time and thank people for all that they do. I'm sure that not many other people do, or they just don't have a chance to. The little things about people that aren't always visible at a glance are the things that make them shine to you. The characteristics that make them unique in so many ways. It's those people that you have to hold tight to and make sure that the world doesn't let them forget how truly special they are.

3 May 2012
Sometimes the greatest answer to anything is silence. Fighting back is useless when people won't listen to you. We always hear that silence is golden but that duct tape is silver. There are plenty of people in this world that always say more than their share and steal all the air. In those situations, I find that it's just better to smile, nod and then walk away...if there's nothing to talk about, it's not worth the time. I don't intend on wasting my time trying to think of words to fill empty spaces or thinking of a kind response in a moment when one isn't needed.

2 May 2012
In life, there're many things to look forward to. Things have to get worse before they get better though...nothing ever comes easy. The race to the finish line doesn't let up until you cross it. There's no sense in finishing at your slowest. We may think that everything we do is wrong, that if things are getting worse that we're not helping anything. I don't think that this is ever true. You have to be truly terrible at something in order for it to run you into the ground...thinking about things in the long-term may be beneficial to our mental health.

1 May 2012
Close your eyes and hear the sound,
Repeat and repeating keeps wearing me down.
I hear the clock tick, getting faster and faster,
Though I just can't quite see what the second hand's after.
As I race down the hall with that childish delight,
I remember that at night, I cling to you with fright.
The darkness doesn't know me, like you, all too well,
I'll race you to the end, I'll beat you there before the bell.
The memories have faded as the times have gone by,
Please tell me you're no longer afraid to look me right in the eye.
The truth is what we run from in times of doubt,
Running to hide, trying to figure it all out.

Someday I think that things will be different,
It all changes so fast, the focus a constant: your interest.
We're all together for such a small amount of time,
Passing the time by how many school bells chime.
But time's running out and we try to hold to each other,
Each day passes just as fast as another.
Yet we look to those closest and hope they can find,
Not just your hand, but a little more time,
To find a way out to make it slow down,
All too eager to get out of this too tiny town.
Then at long last we find it, the secret to the clock,
Instead of running, we should probably all walk.

Then it's just you and me and you're holding my hand.
This race down the hallway was so easily planned.
Others pull ahead and I see I'm not last,
I turn around to look back but it happens so fast.
The second hand slows and the memories sharpen,
For nearly tripping at the finish line, that seems like a fair bargain.
What we all would give to live it just once again,
But time's running out, my patience wearing thin.
I blink a few times, take a deep breath and count,
All these memories coming clear have caused a lot more than doubt.
So we revel in those times, give them one last good look,
As we slowly close another chapter, in our far too shortened book.
