Where is that finish line in your life? Is it when you get a promotion, finish high school, are able to travel the world? What's in the way of it...something difficult to get by such as a fence, or is it just a matter of walking through the park to it?
There are things in everyone's lives that they look forward to. Getting a car, homecoming court, graduating, getting married, etc. But each means something different to everyone. It's interesting to see what people have their eyes set on and always surprising, because when you think you have someone pegged for one thing, it's the exact opposite.
When I look forward to something that I want in life, I think of all of the different ways that I can use to get there. Which one is the easiest, which one is the hardest? Many people will opt for the shorter and faster route, but will that really be as rewarding at the end when you get to where you want to be? I'd rather have something hard earned, rather than easily achieved. I'll take the rock in my shoe, the leaves scratching against the bottoms of my feet, and stepping on sticky gum to get to something that I want rather than skating over everything. Where's all of the fun if you miss out on the hardships?
Life is always moving so fast that sometimes people forget to pursue their finish line moments. They're put on hold and can sometimes wither away, like the leaves do from the branches of the trees in the fall. As time goes by, opportunities pass, people become less able, and time gets away from you. Taking every moment for what it is is key if you want to get anywhere in life. I think that doing things for other people is one of the kindest things that someone can do, but don't let it totally interrupt your life and your dreams.
When you finally get to that finish line, what is the reward? Is it just knowing that you made it, will it be a trip to the local ice cream parlor, or will it be enjoying the fruits of your labor? Again, it's different for everyone. Not everyone will sit and bask in their greatness. Some people will just look at it as something else that they've done and then move on to the next task to cross off of their list. Either way, there has to be some satisfaction, it's just a matter of showing it and sharing it with everyone else that will make a different in not only your life, but in others' as well.
