People are always wishing for tomorrow and are wishing to be something more; but if you're always wishing for something else, what will you wish for when all those things have come and gone?
Almost every high schooler (I'll bet lots of money on this) will tell you that they wish they could graduate now and go off to college. They wish that they could have a source of money, a new car, a boyfriend/girlfriend, and much more. Eventually, these things come along and then some of them end. Once you're in college you're hoping to get a job and get into the real world where you can be on your own and not have to do homework. Pretty soon, most of your life is going to be behind you...then what?
I think that we all need to just slow down a little. Take what's right in front of you for the moment that it's there and don't worry about what's going to happen, don't wish for something to come sooner, because then it's that much closer to being gone. There's a quote that sums this idea up perfectly..."Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift...that is why it's called the present." I don't think that anyone could say that more perfectly. People who are always wanting and wishing to be something more and to have something better won't ever really have anything. I think that they strive for these things because they have nothing to begin with.
Whether you have a giant mansion or keep a tiny snow-globe collection, eventually what goes around will come around. I believe that in time, people who really need what they secretly wish for will have it. Then those that are always wishing for everything will be left with nothing...simply because nothing is ever good enough for them. It's just a matter of who is the most patient I guess.
Granted we all have times where we wish we could be closer to the next exit with a bathroom on long road trips, wish that the next most popular movie will come out in theaters, wish that we could graduate, wish that we could see someone special, etc. But I think that in time, good things will come to those who wait patiently. Others who wish for everything and receive what they want when they please will have nothing left when others will have what they wished for all along.
