Giving back. It's what every college application, job interview, and association will ask you before making a decision. But how do you answer it? There are so many things that come to mind when I am asked that question and I never know how to put it all down in words, but today I finally learned how to do so.

Today, I saw truly how far a simple and sincere "thank you" can go. Knowing that you're appreciated is always something wonderful. Seeing people who risk everything for something that they love gives a new meaning to protection and giving. Looking at the perfectly ironed uniforms, the shiny shoes, the glimmering medals, and the stoic faces of those who serve is truly inspiring.
I'm not sure about everyone else around me, but I know that I like to give back to the community and to the people who care. I only hope that someday someone will say a simple "thank you" so that maybe I, as well as other people who help, can feel as important as those who step in time with each other and do so much more than we could ever ask for.
