20 December 2011
When it comes down to it, how far are you willing to push yourself in order to cross that finish line?
My dad completed the Ironman a few years ago and I think that the race itself is a true test of how far you are willing to push yourself for something that you want. I don't know many people who are that dedicated to something...someone who is willing to go through mental contradictions and physical pain in order to complete something is beyond most people. Although most people have never done anything quite that extensive, we all have our own challenges everyday. When I run cross country, I am always thinking about finishing no matter how my legs feel, how hard it is to breathe, or what the weather is like...I just know that I need to finish and that I need to beat my time. Like with schoolwork, I need to get everything organized and done, correctly, on the date it's due in order to make the grade. Every test score I wish would be higher than the last...though most things are easier said than done.
Most people are trying to work hard in order to get the next big promotion, get the cover story on the next newspaper that goes out, or maybe it is a literal finish line in a race. Sometimes the goals could be a little smaller, but whatever the case, we all try really hard to reach them even when we tell others that it's just a small matter. The truth of it all is that it's not over until you decide that it is, because no one can really tell you when something's finished...they will never be able to see the ending product as you do.
